PET experts gather at SZBL

On January 31st, 2024, the Third Shenzhen Bay PET Molecular Imaging Technology and Clinical Applications Forum was successfully held. The event was organized by Shenzhen Bay Laboratory (SZBL), hosted by its Institute of Biomedical Engineering, and co-sponsored by the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The forum featured 15 eminent scholars and clinical experts in the field of PET, who presented their latest academic findings, centering on the advancements in PET molecular imaging technology and its clinical implications. The forum witnessed active participation from over 100 attendees. Distinguished participants included Wu Feng, lab leader of SZBL, and Professor Tian Jie from the Institute of Automation, Chinese Academy of Sciences. The event was chaired by Principal Investigator Peng Qiyu, Deputy Director of the Institute of Biomedical Engineering of SZBL, Researcher Yang Yongfeng, from the Shenzhen Institute of Advanced Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Principal Investigator Guo Tengfei from the Institute of Biomedical Engineering of SZBL.

Wu Feng delivered a welcome speech, expressing his gratitude to the forum organizers and extending a cordial welcome to the guests attending the conference. In his address, Wu highlighted the Laboratory’s strengths in interdisciplinary fusion and conveyed best wishes for the successful culmination of the forum.

The forum brought together experts and scholars from the fields of PET technology and clinical applications to discuss molecular imaging and its practical use. The participants were engaged in a dynamic exchange and collision of the latest ideas and points of view in these related fields, and innovative insights were inspired as a result. This conference is a response to the call for technological self-sufficiency and for active alignment with the national focus on the population health industry. Leveraging the opportunities in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and building upon the established industrial foundations, the forum sought to bolster leadership in innovation and foster a synergy between academic fields with the industrial sector, thereby creating a high-level platform for scholarly dialogue.

Peng Qiyu delivered the concluding remarks. He expressed his special thanks to the National Natural Science Foundation of China for its dedication and support to the field of PET. He also articulated a vision where all experts are champions and active contributors to the advancement of PET science. Peng advocated for a concerted effort to meld PET technology research closely with clinical needs, thereby advancing the profound development of nuclear medicine in China. This integration aims to ensure that PET nuclear medicine technology better serves scientific inquiry, clinical practice, and the public's well-being.
